Tai Chi Meditation Medical Brain Research-Testimonials, University of Kansas Turning Point Students
Mounting neurological research shows that Tai Chi and Meditation can increase brains size, improve cognitive function, and possibly delay the onset of dementia. See an overview of some of that research, and also testimonials of Tai Chi Meditation students participating in the University of Kansas Turning Point - Center for Hope and Healing classes. These classes are taught by Tai Chi author, Bill Douglas, author of a best-selling tai chi book "The Complete Idiot's Guide to T'ai Chi & Qigong," and the 2009 Inductee to the Internal Arts Hall of Fame in New York. Bill has been a Tai Chi source for Prevention Magazine; The New York Times; China's Xinhua News Agency; Reader's Digest; The Wall Street Journal; and media worldwide. Bill is the Founder of World Tai Chi & Qigong Day, celebrated annually in 80 nations, and officially recognized by governors of 22 US States, senates and legislatures including the Senates of New York, California, and Puerto Rico, and was recently recognized by the Brazilian national government. It is celebrated the last Saturday of April each year, and events are free and open to the public.- published: 24 Jan 2014

Brain Research and Pedophilia: What it Means for Assessment, Treatment, and Policy | James Cantor, Ph.D.
Brain scanning technologies stand poised to revolutionize our understanding of pedophilia and hebephilia. Even though the first MRI studies of those conditions were reported less than five years ago, increasingly detailed brain mapping is already leading to new insights into how these disorders develop, and research teams internationally are reporting preliminary studies, laying the groundwork for the development of an fMRI–based test of pedophilia. Although the potential importance of MRI technologies is widely recognized, their results and implications have not yet been widely discussed outside the scientific arena. In this lecture, Dr. Cantor will summarize—in English—the results from his and other brain research teams, review their implications for our understanding of sexual interests in children, and explore the implications of this work for our professional ethics and public policy.

The Impact of Brain and Mind Research Symposium
The Impact of Brain and Mind Research Symposium
Understanding the brain is a grand challenge of science, and in April 2013, President Obama announced the federal BRAIN Initiative, with the goal is to create dramatic improvements in our understanding of brain function and dysfunction. With so much at stake, what role can Carnegie Mellon and Pittsburgh play in this initiative? This panel of experts discusses the opportunities and challenges posed by the BRAIN Initiative, including the potential of this work to bring about revolutionary changes in our understanding of the brain; in our ability to understand, diagnose and treat brain disorders; and in the development of models that mimic brain functions. Opening Remarks: Subra Suresh, Carnegie Mellon University Moderator: Michael Tarr, Carnegie Mellon University Panelists: Philip Rubin, Executive Office of the President of the United States Tom Mitchell, Carnegie Mellon University Nathan Urban, Carnegie Mellon University Marlene Behrmann, Carnegie Mellon University Emery Brown, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard Medical School Carnegie Mellon University is hosting a series of inaugural events to welcome its ninth president, Dr. Subra Suresh, including symposia and discussions throughout the inaugural year with the theme of "Crossing Boundaries, Transforming Lives."
